Julie Arnall
Julie Arnall studied BA Three Dimensional Design at Middlesex Polytechnic, and worked during the Nineties designing and producing ceramics for domestic interiors. Numerous commissions included work for Smallbone of Devizes and Mark Wilkinson; and exhibitions included the Bluecoat Gallery, Liverpool and Design Resolutions at the Royal Festival Hall.
In 2002, Julie studied MA Fine Art: Print at Wimbledon School of Art, and since graduating has worked as a practicing artist and has taught in many areas of education, including at the University of the Arts London and Kingston University. She currently teaches drawing and printmaking courses to adults in East Hertfordshire and online.
I have an enduring interest in drawing which allows a direct approach to creating an image, and often this develops through printmaking. I work primarily in the print processes of drypoint, monotype and collagraph - these have a tactile quality as the line or image literally leaves an indentation in the paper. For me, this provides a link to the senses, and yet contrasts with the static imagery I create in which an object is frozen for a moment in the memory. The fine detail of a line on paper draws the viewer in closer, and causes a moment to pause and reflect.
Prints and drawings are for sale. All my prints are made by hand on an etching press, and are sometimes part of a small, signed edition or are one-off monotypes. Please contact me if you would like to find out a little more about any of my work, or classes and online drawing groups.
